Group Therapy

It’s an experiential process different from “talk therapy.”

Groups can be active and interactive with presentations by group members. I know that sharing your personal information and feelings can seem intimidating, so it’s not unusual to have anxiety about the process.

You’re not alone in this, and I would ask you to have confidence in the support inherent to the group process. When they share their issues, most folks feel relief, less alone, and less burdened.

The group is also there to support and give you feedback on changes you make in your life. For example, instead of keeping your thoughts to yourself, you can share what you are thinking and the feelings attached to those thoughts. You learn how to be vulnerable without judging yourself… and learn how to be open and honest with others. It gets easier and easier.

The group will have boundaries. I will brief each person individually with a pre-group interview so that everyone understands the boundaries and the necessity of maintaining confidentiality at all times. This protocol offers the group a safe environment where members can let down their defenses with the understanding that the group is therapeutic and not social in nature.

Groups offer support, healing, change, and growth.

Let me introduce you to our groups…

Both groups are “open groups,” which means that they are ongoing. If a new member wants to join, then there must be an opening available. I limit groups to only eight members.

The Art Therapy Group

This group meets weekly. Sessions begin with a directive or topic presented by the art therapist, but the interpretation will be up to you as you manipulate the art materials. Materials are often planned ahead of time (e.g., use of specific paints or colors) to help the group recognize certain feelings or address particular issues.

Remember: You do NOT have to be an artist to benefit from Art Therapy!

The “Healing Hearts” Group

This group is for partners who have been betrayed in a relationship.

“Healing Hearts” emerged out of the need for betrayed partners to have the support as they move out of the chaos and heal from the trauma. Core to the program is a workbook based on the work of Doctors Patrick and Stephanie Carnes. Each member will have the opportunity to work on a presentation from the workbook exercises.

Life changes happen in group…

You’re not alone in your journey for change. Support is here, and I’d be honored to work with you.
